Chic Critique is “Penelope’s” outlet for all the fashion-related thoughts she entertains throughout the day. Pen describes her fashion fascination as either a “hobby” or a “passion,” depending on her audience – boys usually comprehend the hobby more easily (especially compared to how they feel about their cars, gadgets, etc.)…
Penelope is a 20-something living in Milwaukee and working in the suburbs, doing something she got looped into after graduating from college; it’s not what she planned on doing (teaching); it’s not all that compelling or ritzy (PR/advertising/marketing); and it’s NOT what she’s passionate about (fashion!). She hopes to go back to school for an advanced degree, but is a newlywed and therefore trying to save and plan for grown-up life. Style-wise, Pen is fairly classic, but has accustomed herself to taking risks with accessories (with a soft spot for long necklaces and shoes). She’s not a small girl, 5’4 and a dress size 12 (occassionally 14, if we’re being honest), with a big butt, legs, and chest, and therefore is a HUGE fan of the recent dress resurgence because they tend to be flattering on her compact hourglass shape. Penelope believes that her less-than-perfect physique puts her in a great position to to critique because she knows the importance of fit and appropriation…
Chic Critique is meant to be not only a creative outlet for Penelope, but also a sensible guide to looking at the world and developing a trained eye for what does and doesn’t work. Pen is aware that she does not live in a metropolis, and thus, will take extra care to present a realistic view of her world. The Milwaukee style scene has recently been rejuvenated with renovated malls, new shops, and adorable boutiques downtown; it’s mostly unpretentious, and bargain shoppers reign supreme…
*Note* The “Highs and Lows” entries describe people Penelope is in contact with during her days. All names have been changed and descriptions are included only to give readers an idea of a complete look. The “Lows” are not people that Pen personally knows (all of her friends and family are fabulous!).
Overall, Chic Critique is meant to be a fun discussion place for the similarly style-obsessed – happy critiquing!
